Right. There's just been some talk of them open-sourcing it to work with other applications. It does work well as a MIDI backup device, though. Seems to me I read of one app that used it (the Line 6) for something other than backup, but I can't recall what it was nor am I going to search for it now (lazy old man).

There was another unit that was in the works, too, from a smaller manufacturer, that was an open-source MIDI interface.

I just think it would be nice to be able to use all these fairly cool and portable apps with a full-sized keyboard and not the teeny one on the display of my iPod.

This looks like a nice gadget to mix with Morphwiz/Bebot/Synthpond/etc.

For fans of touchosc:

http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... build.html

basically midi output instead of OSC output, line-6 support, so no computer needed! sick!

edit: note they're using the Line 6 output with the ipad!

Synthesizers and Hardware for I-Phone / I-Pad

Post by sepiakeys » Tue Nov 09, 2010 12:00 pm

Seeing the Akai Synth-Station-App and -Controller makes me think of what potantial lies in I-Phones and I-Pads, combined with dedicated hardware:

Where are the limitations (costs, CPU-power)?

What products are there on the market today?

Is Akai going to push this further?

What could a dream-synth and hardware look like?

Imagine a full-size, weighted keyboard with an I-Pad docked on, running a modular-synthesizer-app you can patch on the touchscreen - plus assignable knobs on the controller. Or make it a B3 with drawbars or draw envelopes and waveforms or edit samples on the touchscreen...
Good programming is worth more than the most expensive synthesizer.

My current plan for a live setup is ableton live, novation launchpad, mopho keyboard and my ipod running touchOSC with custom maps for each effect chain I'll alternately use in the live setup. Pretty excited about it actually.

Sorry if this is old, but have you guys seen these lists of apps that support audio copy/paste?

Awesome to be able to see which specialty-synth type apps (BassLine, DXi-FM, Argon?) can be easily married with more DAW-like apps, making them actually useful for production.

NanoStudio looks KILLER. I'm also loving the videos of Everyday Looper, it seems perfect for the kind of composing I do on the go.

will do! I might skip the launchpad as it's overkill for what I need (mostly just going forward/back a scene at a time in Live) so it might be a korg nanocontrol instead of the launchpad.

Just found this:

Hex controller! I've wanted to try this for a long time, as an app it's perfect. Now I _really_ want an ipad.
