sound cut out on plug in

i've just installed predator onto protools 8 (had to install the vst and use fxpansion to wrap it as rtas wouldn't install). This is the first plug in i've installed other than the other plug ins that you get with PT8, the problem is that when playing predator the sound momentarily 'cuts out' for a nano second. Sometimes when a key on the keyboard is depressed initially there is a click, delay and then the sound comes in a split second after. As this is not happening all th time i don't think that its latency. I'm using an axiom 49 midi controller and window xp. Could it be a midi signal breakdown?
