Agreed, d16 are great emulators of classic 808/909. If you want a drum synthesizer that isn't quite as played out as those classics consider audio damage tattoo or waldorf attack

fx pansion guru

both d16s stuff and guru have some really REALLY fun jamming potential

Isn't Rebirth available for free download now? It offers you one 808, one 909 and two 303's. And the option to replace the samples in the drummachines with you own.

Yeah, it's free, available from the Rebirth Museum. Dunno if the emulations hold up these days though...another one to consider in the vein of the x0x's is Audio Realism's ADM. Other contenders include the already mentioned MicroTonic, Audio Damage's Tattoo & Xfer's Nerve, though these last three aren't strictly emulations of anything, just versatile drum synths.

Yup, the D16 plugs, as well as Audio Damage's Tattoo.

Another vote for the AudioRealism Drum Machine (ADM). It has x0x-style programming, 606/808/909 generators, PCF, and the ability to load your own samples in place of the built-in generators.
