Sequencer Free-ware
Hi I recently just took a jump into the software waters of recording. And basically I was curious if there are any free (and legal, I don't want to get my computer over run with viruses or anything lol) sequencer programs. Im looking to send the sequencer out to midi/cv converter then to my micromoog. I want to multitrack it for chords, drums, etc so something with a lot of tracks. Ill be using either audacity or cubase le (it came with my interface) for right now cuz im cheap, later on when I get more comfortable with everything id like to move up to ableton. So any suggestions, im most comfortable with x0x style sequencers but any kind will do really. Thanks
My modular so far: Q104, Q106, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M (x2 STEREO!)

Reaper. Probably most versatile option.Demo is unencumbered and free, and registration is only like $50.

Reaper is no fun whatsoever as an x0x-style pattern sequencer.

You may wanna have a look at Numerology

Not freeware but you can do quite a bit with the demo. I honestly think the $119 is worth it given just how deep it is.

Re: Sequencer Free-ware
I think you should just buy the intro version of Live now and save yourself the headache of learning one program now and then learning another later on. It costs $99 which is what a cheap fx pedal or a boozy night out costs but you can do a lot more with it.
Start as you intend to go on.

Re: Sequencer Free-ware
thanks for all the help. i will look into reaper, im more comfortable with x0x style sequencing but i have used other methods as well. good point about ableton tho, it would make more sense to start with what i intend to use in the end.

Re: Sequencer Free-ware
The demo version of renoise works fine as a midi sequencer, although I get lag when recording notes into it in real time. Also techno toys 303 is an easy to use if limited sequencer.
We'll always be remembered, we'll always be dismembered.

Re: Sequencer Free-ware
can you not use the copy of cubase le you have rather than buying another sequencer?

Cubase is a DAW, and has a sequencer.... Back in the day, all cubase was, was a sequencer...

Re: Sequencer Free-ware
Seq24 or Cubase LE.. both seem like they'll do what you need, without you having to buy anything.
I love seq24.. almost tempts me to boot up windows every now and then
