NI Massive - anyone?
Been fooling with the demo - pretty sweet. Anyone use it a lot here? Looks very deep and I like the sound so far.

Massive is an AWESOME synth. I haven't had that much time with it, unfortunately, but the time I have spent with it has been great. Deep programming possibilities and a great randomiser function for when you just need some inspiration. I'd say it probably is the best randomiser I've used.

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
I posted this in another thread, but here's an ambient soundscape I made with it last night called Snowform.
One instance of Massive and some modulating Moog Voyager bass, both played in real time into the computer.
It's definitely going on my "next to buy" list. I also downloaded the demo of FM8, but I already have a lot of FM based synths and so far I'm not hearing anything that makes me want to plunk down the cash for it.

Not even CS_TBL's demo tracks?
But yeah - Massive's great!

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
komplete really is a MUCH better deal than buying individuals, so if you want kontakt, reaktor, guitar rig, fm8, etc. at all it's worth the bundle price...
Massive is my favorite in the bundle personally though. Guitar Rig is pretty nice to have too though (for all sorts of processing, especially since komplete including the traktor effects and the convo reverb now)

CS_TBL's demos are great. I need to monkey with it more, but right now Massive is more impressive.
Yes, the Komplete bundle is the way to go. Looks like I'll be saving my pennies.

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
A demonic troll (part of my staff) told me to shout a bit in this thread!
It's still a bit WIP, very hard to get the strings right.
It's of course Dunbar's Theme (Dances with Wolves), made by John Barry, who died a few days ago at 77. When it's finished, and a video added, I'll put it at my channel as usual..
24x FM8 solo strings (3 sections, 10:8:6)
1x FM8 French horns
1x FM8 Trumpet
1x FM8 Tenor trombone
1x FM8 Tuba
1x FM8 Choir
1x FM8 Wind
1x FM8 Bass drum
1x FM8 Snare drum
1x FM8fx
..and still CPU @ 24% peak.. gotta love FM8 ^__^

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
I f**k love NI massive. It is 100% the main synthesizer I use in all my productions now just because it's so fun to make sounds and because the result is So good. I've noted something about massive though, it almost feels designed to be layered. It doesn't have this huge broadband frequency range you'd expect from something called "massive". Layering everything a Few times makes it sound so much more awesome than any other Softie out there.
I love it

Wow, that sounds really nice and professional, like a film score! Nice work!b3groover wrote:I posted this in another thread, but here's an ambient soundscape I made with it last night called Snowform.

Man ! What the h**l did you do? It is like a cover of Brian Eno's "A Clearing", from one of the best Ambient albums of all time, On Land... You know that, right? The chords are the same...
But the sound you made with Massive it's its own... Good job!
And yes, Massive sounds awesome! Buy it. You won't regret it...

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
Never heard that Eno record. In fact, I don't own any Eno (sacrilege, I know). I'll check it out!

Re: NI Massive - anyone?
Yeah, I just listened on YouTube. Damn. I'm a thief and I didn't even know it!
It's even in the same key. Wild.
The movement from a sixth to an open fifth seems to be a common theme in Eno's approach, though. While I don't have any Eno solo records, I did listen to a shitload of Genesis, Peter Gabriel, U2, Fripp, and David Byrne, all of whom are connected to Eno.
When I was creating it, my tune reminded me of something Gabriel might do.
Thanks for pointing it out. I need to get some classic Eno. Or maybe I don't!!! Maybe it will make me realize all my ideas have been done!
