Can it "compete" with the OP-X I wonder? Which claims to be flawless.
I mean, I'm sure it sounds nice and all, according to the comments section there. But side-to-side with an actual OB? :ugeek:

I can't figure out any way to install presets either. Meh.

Hm, I could make the soundbanks in .fxp format work by just loading them in VST Host..but those .aupreset files I have no idea how to load up.
It sure sounds nice, but I have no idea what it's like compared to a real OB-X(a)..anyone?

I just use VST Host to test out vst synths, don't own a massive sequencer like Ableton or Cubase.

this thing sounds excellent. can't compare it to the OPX plugin or a real OB, but it's got a lot of character for a soft synth

I had a quick play with it and I did like the sound I got from it. Very nice for a free synth. I also like the SQ-80 emulation that's out there as well. That one is also free and it sounds quite nice.

Just been playing around with it a bit - I'm not much for VA, but this thing can do some pretty wicked noises :) Now I really wanna get my hands on the real deal sometime...

The more I use this the more impressed I become. I have no idea if this could compare to a real OBX, but this emulation certainly has character and produces some wonderful sounds.

I'll probably make a YouTube video showing off some of my patches when I'm further along.

Hellz yes! This is sounding both more authentic and less harsh in the treble harmonics than OP-X and is easier to use. It doesn't really need EQ corrections, but try it with Sir Elliot 1968 A Preamp for some super warmth.
OBXd uses about twice as much CPU as OP-X and doesn't support voice-doubling or arpeggios, but it otherwise has a very similar feature set. I would still use OP-X for some sounds, but brighter ones are now certainly reserved for this excellent plugin! Let's hope it's equally stable and responds just as well to external controls. I also still need to try the learn function. I used the 32 bit version running in Reaper for PC.

I made a little demo song and posted it over in the Listening Lounge. Nothing too crazy, just a few sounds I made using this VST, in a track I arranged in Ableton Live.

Wish you could save patches more easily but definitely very cool for a freebie !
