Master your tracks for free with these plugins

Post by georgemarauder » Wed May 14, 2014 4:42 pm

Hello everyone!

I recently made a little tutorial where I created a mastering effects chain using all completely free plugins. The tutorial was designed for people who have been curious about mastering but aren't quite sure what goes into the process.

I'm not a professional (far from it!), but I use my ears and to my ears these plugins sound great. The key is to not push each individual plugin too hard or you could introduce artifacts and things you don't want, so moderation is key. If you use that mantra you will find that these plugins sound great and do a lot to enhance the overall tone of your completed mix.

Here is the tutorial for anyone interested.

Thanks for your time and happy mastering!

Hey thanks for taking the time to do this tutorial and share it with all of us.
It's always fun to see how other's do it and the equipment they use.
Thanks again :)

No problem. :)

Using free tools you can really get some sweet results. I'm still learning (and there is a LOT to learn) but I've gotten decent results with this setup so really anyone can do it. Just experiment with these plugins and you may really like what you hear.

There's a bunch of free limiters you can use, but LoudMax is the easiest one to use. Just turn down the threshold a little bit and voila! If you need more control you can use Lightweight Limiter or something else.

By the way, thanks for dropping that Lightweight Limiter name in this thread. I Google'd it since I didn't know what it was and it led me to the whole Lightweight series of plugins that look very cool! I'll have to grab them and test them out tonight. Thanks!
