Software editor for ESQ1?

Post by Untouchable_888 » Thu Jul 23, 2015 11:18 pm

I've been trying to find a software editor to program patches on my ESQ1. Can anyone please help me find one that isn't MidiQuest?
I'm experiencing trouble with the programing of my ESQ1 and could really use a software editor.

There isn't one that isn't MidiQuest.

There used to be many freeware ones around 25 years ago but nothing that runs on modern computers.

It's actually simple to program, just read the manual carefully when it explains modulation and the EG level/rate pairs.

The Sq8l vst works as an editor librarian ... just ignore the sq80 specific waveforms .
If your like me and run OSX it will run with X11 ans SM pro's VFX apps installed .
Some wish to leave their mark ... I want to leave a scar .

I confirm that using SQ8L is a good option. You can create a sound in that VST and then dump it into
the ESQ-1.

There is also a Ctrlr (free software standalone and VST program) panel available but like the programmer
of the panel said: turn a knob too fast.... and the ESQ-1 goes in overload and reboots. The panel itself (or the pic of
the panel) might be good to have a look at. It gives you all parameters of the ESQ-1 in a 1 page overview.

When you dig into it programming on the ESQ-1 is not difficult and a lot of fun.

Good luck,

If you have an iPad, my app Patch Base just added editors for the ESQ-1 and SQ-80. It's a free download, with an in-app purchase to unlock everything. More info here: https://coffeeshopped.com/patch-base

What Mac OS X version are you running? It's broken in Yosemite AFAIK.

Integrate the ESQ 1 with your DAW and use it the same way as a soft-synth or run the editor as a separate application connected to your ESQ 1. You can display, edit, tweak, organize, audition, archive and manage your ESQ 1 from the focal point of your studio. Midi Quest offers the widest selection of editor/librarian plug-in technologies: VST, AU, MFX, and Studio Connections.

I am very surprised when people ask for a software editor for the ESQ-1.

Seriously, it's one of the easiest synths to program from the interface itself.

Just curious to know: where do you run into problems when programming? Where do you get stuck? What is not working for you?

Most important question of all: Did you read the manual, again and again...?

Robin.

I used SoundDiver! but I guess that's a closed door for many too. Indeed it's not too difficult to program but maybe for the first-timer, someone who is short on time (work/family committments) it can seem a bit confusing. Years ago I bought a user manual written by some 3rd party in the US, sadly it was total rubbish. Thanks to the internet info now is everywhere.
As with most ensoniq gear, first understand the synth structure, where everything is and what it does (30 minute job). Then the second level of understanding/play/fun is getting to grips with the modulator options. The ensonq kit I have are all very similar, it's subtle uses of the modulators that bring the sounds to life, or disaster!

Although, what took up a lot of my time was when I knew what I wanted to do, just had to find it in the synth.

As mentioned I think there is a free editor now in Ctrlr, what's even better, everyone is free to modify it to suit their style/needs. I've written a few editors myself in Ctrlr although there are various "gotchas".

There's an iOS app called Patch Base, which has an ESQ template.
