Sound Problems on Roland JV 80

Postby Alesis Fan » Thu Oct 19, 2017 9:53 pm

Hey everyone, I need some help. I recently purchased a JV80 and it's doing something I can't figure out. I have sound out of all 3 outputs (left, right ,headphones). As long as you are playing it's fine. But if you go on a 20 minute break and come back, no sound. If I unplug the 1/4 inch cable and plug it back in I have sound. So it sounded like a loose connection on the jack board, but if you wiggle the cable it doesn't break up or static and you can play the keyboard hard and no problems. This only happens when it sits dormant. It almost acts like it goes into some sort of sleep mode. Any ideas. I really like the sounds on this board, but this is a problem.

Hey I have a JV80 as well that I am working on. The problem you describe is weird. AFAIK it does not have a time out feature. Have you tried a system factory reset to make sure there isn't some sort of garbage data stuck in the RAM? Also is the memory battery outputting the correct voltage? Sounds like something funky may be going on with your reset line or a possible flex crack in the board that only manifests itself after it heats up? Sorry just shooting in the dark, but happy to help ya troubleshoot the beast. I have the service manual :)

Sounds like faulty output relays- not sure if JV80 has those, but you can check. These can be cleaned with compressed air, and if you're careful, contact cleaner as well.
