Or are there any votes for any other Canadian technicians?

I used to take all my synths to John (JL) when he was based out of Los Angeles. It was a sad day when he moved to Calgary (damn you Cantos! ;)) There is no one better when it comes to Oberheim synths!

Late reply, but I've just gotten my synths rejuvinated & restored by John Leimseider in Calgary. He's absolutely fantastic. He does great work, he has a true enthusiast's reverence of vintage gear, and he's just such a great guy to deal with. I'm very happy to have met him. And he's got some interesting stories of his days back in LA...

As an aside, they have an awesome synth collection at Cantos.

For anyone needing synth/vintage tech work done in Ireland, I highly recommend John Henson in Dublin (synthnerd <at> eircom.net). John recently worked on my JP6 - he installed the Europa upgrade along with a service/calibration, and my JP sounds (and looks) amazing now!

Really nice guy, loves his work and knows his stuff. When I saw him recently, he'd been working on a JP8, JP4, P5 rev2 and CS60 among others. He also services pro audio gear.

Shameless self-promotion plug here for EARS and The Analog Lab. We've been around for ages and finally branching out onto the web. Our head synth tech Jeff Blekinsopp has been at the forefront of synthesis from day one working with companies like ARP, Octave-Plateau, and collaborating directly with artists such as Pink Floyd, Vangelis, The Secret Machines, etc. Recent projects we've worked on include a rare Moog Sonic V, Oberheim Matrix 12, Sequential Prophet 5s, a rare Polyfusion modular, Clavinets, Wulitzers, etc etc.

Is amazing! Greg fixed my Prodigy in less than 24 hours, my Juno 106 in mere seconds and charged SO MUCH less than anyone else I talked to.

Also if you are in the San Francisco Bay Area Matt Cunitz at 510-527-2067 does PHENOMINAL Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Celest, Etc....work. He and Greg have a working relationship and I found them both to be: friendly, fair, and AMAZING!!! I can't sing these guys enough praise.

prime2026 wrote:As for a great tech in the Atlanta, Georgia area look no further than John Davis who runs Eagle Audio. He's great with vintage and modern gear, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. His service prices are also incredibly competitive as he does not charge by the hour but instead by the piece.

Eagle Audio's number is (770) 886-8286

On the flip side, I advise to stay away from Logical Audio in Tucker, Georgia. They would not quote me a price on a part I needed to have installed even if they did the work, instead telling me that I had to come in and pay $45 for a quote so they could tell me how much they would charge me for the part. After talking to 3 people at this establishment it was confirmed that they do not "go out of their way" to tell you if they will overcharge you for a part or not until you pay the estimate fee.

I can second the poor opinion of Logical Audio. They had my JP-8 twice for 4-6 months and never fixed the problem. They would never call me. I had to check in every week to make sure they were working on it. Usually they weren't. They offered no refund.

I've had numerous synths, drum machines, samplers, and effects worked on by Chris Hewitt in San Jose, CA.
The guy is super nice, very knowledgeable, and his prices are extremely reasonable.
He loves to work on Minimoogs.

Perusing through this thread, I see some differing opinions on Chicago techs.

Has anyone actually had a stand up guy/place work on anything vintage in or around Central Illinois? I'd travel to St. Louis, Indy or Chicago if it was worth the trip instead of mailing. I'm needing my P5 looked at, and beside sending to Greg @ Analog Synth Services, my options are slim. To me sending an old board thousands of miles to have repaired is counter productive if it gets roughed up in the process. :blackeye:
