Hi everybody,

Today I have switched the old Roland D5 on, to try the memory card (the same card used for the JD990 test).
I have used another bank on the card (bank D1, using the switches on the memory card).

No problem at all, it works perfectly. Even easier to insert in the D5 than in the JD due to different slot sizes.
Total success with that card in my "Roland" setup. Again a big bravo to Joachim

Regards
David

Have you got U-20 covered? I'd be glad to participate. (Also have JD990, JV1080, D70, and D50 i know they are covered, but just wanted to mention this comment comes from hard core synth programmer who would be glad to run a ton of tests). :D

The U-220 only supports ROM cards, not RAM cards. (And yes, I do have a U-220, so even if it was a supported synth, I could test it myself)

U-20. It was a typo.

Yes, aladan owns one. Thanks for the offer though.

If you still need a beta-tester, I'd be willing to do work with a Roland GR-1 synth.

Any idea when the final version(s) will be available for sale? Weeks? Months? In time for Christmas? :)

Weeks?
Certainly not.
gj67 wrote:Months?
Unlikely. I still have to go through a second round of prototypes and beta testing thereof. I have to design the changes into the card first, and I need to figure out how to do a small production run. This is the first time I'm doing a project at this scale, so I'm taking baby steps because a misstep might turn our very costly.

I wouldn't stop looking for presents if I were you ;)

Hi Joachim,

Just to throw an idea at you: What about a (mini) crowdfunding approach? Raise the money for a 25 or 50 piece pre-production run, funders get first delivery and the understanding things may not work 100% (semi-beta).
You'd have less risk and more progress.

Kind regards,
GJ.

I don't think that is quite correct. I wouldn't have less risk, it would just be other people's money I'm throwing out the window if anything fails instead of my own. Plus it would no longer be an "in my own time" kind of side project for me, as money tends to turn hopes into expectations. I quite like the self-paced nature this has for me, even though it means keeping you guys waiting; I have enough stress in my day job ;)

In my opinion, crowdfunding is absolutely valid for projects where you're past the prototype stage and can't front the money for a first production run, but none of that applies to this project right now. That said, I am considering taking pre-orders once I'm ready to move into production.

Hi,

Any update on this? Not trying to push (got myself an M256E card to get around) but I'd love to have this to get away from the 64 patch limit on my D70 without having to resend the patches each time I want to switch.

Kind regards,
GJ.

Beta testing is in progress - and there are still some bugs yet to be ironed out (e.g. slot physical space issues in the JV-1080). Another thing I've discovered is that the U-110 and U-220 slots are all PCM (ROM) ones and they don't take RAM cards at all (despite internet opinion saying otherwise!)
