I purchased an Akai X7000 and the disk drive is not reading the disk. When I insert the media, the drive spins and clicks. I know this is probably related to the belt. Does anyone have any pointers on how to repair this machine? Also, is there a copy of the service manual out there? I've searched the Internet but I haven't found a link to a free version. Thank you.

Pull the drive & give it a look over. I bought a Mirage sampler in non working condition with a similar issue. I reset the cable, reset anther cable that was accessible, on the drive itself, cleaned it. But, the issue was that there was some fuzz/hair around the shaft that spins, which was causing enough friction to keep the drive from spinning up all the way. I carefully cleared that & I haven't had an issue since.

Try YouTube. There are plenty of videos regarding fixing belts on the Japanese Super Famicon systems, which use 2.8" quickdiscs - here's a link to one.

I've got a S700 that needs a new drive, but at the moment I'm sending samples back and forth via midi to an old mac laptop with a copy of Sound Designer 1.6

Thank you both for the suggestions. Does anyone have a copy of the service manual? I want to make sure that I have instructions to dismantle/reassemble the the sampler in order to repair the drive.
