Akai MPC-2000 - getting started

So I picked up an MPC-2000 in a trade a while back and never got around to doing anything with it as I didn't have a SCSI hard drive I could use with it at the time, or rather I didn't want to do any mucking around with SCSI voodoo to get one of my random hard drives working with it. I finally got around to that today and it's now successfully formatted and booting. Problem is, I got the unit without any sample disks, and I'm having difficulty finding a good place to get any. As usual with samplers, it seems like 90% of the search results are sites that would like to have you shell out $40 a pop for sample packs, and since the MPC line was apparently very popular in the hip-hop crowd it seems like most of these packs are oriented towards the recyclable loops-'n-licks type collections that are preferred in that style of music. Is there any place to get a decent set of more general instrument samples for more conventional playing and arranging purposes? And/or a decent sample converter/program editor that can be used on a PC?

I'd reccomend Translator, but I am having trouble figuring out exactly how to handle settings on it so ... if i can't figure it out i dont expect others to.

The MPC2000 does read wav files, so if you find any sample packs in that format (16/44), it will read it.
