Best Prices on MPC 500 (report them here)

Post by shagghie » Tue Oct 24, 2006 5:39 pm

Best price I've found so far is $699.00

Anyone find anything cheaper? If so, post where!

This will be my first MPC, and I'm debating between it and the 1000....Hard to tell (apart from the batteries aspect) how much more 'portable' the 500 is over the 1000. The 500 can use a USB hard drive for storage, the 1000 cannot. But, by the time you pack a storage drive in your bag, and by the time you have to plug your drive in to an AC jack to power it, you might as well have a 1000.... unless someone can correct my logic for me ASAP.

Are you sure the 500 can acess a USB drive? I'm somewhat certain it can only act as a USB slave like the 1000. According to the specs it has a single USB slave port. I'm downloading the manual to double check.

Novamusik quoted me $675. I doubt you can hook up an external drive to it.

yeah you defiantly can't use a USB drive with 500.

Yeah, I thought this bullet point meant it worked as either slave OR that you could connect a USB Mass storage device TO it...but I think you two are correct:

USB: Slave connector x 1, USB MASS STORAGE CLASS support (Windows 2000/ME/XP or later version, or Mac OS 9.x/10.x or later version.)

Bugger. But at least you can read the CF card from your PC/Mac like on the MPC 1000, and drag and drop to it. That's cool. 2gb is a lot of space for samples...should be plenty, yeah?

It sure is... I rarely use cards bigger than 512mb on mine....just to keep me sane.

I don't think I could deal with CF cards, even at 2 gigs, havign an itnernal in my 1k has probably made me lazy though. I've made a habit of bouncing out big projects from my DAW into the MPC 1ks internal drive (Ive got a 40 gigger in there) and taking it a way for say a weekend to reaarange everything. I love it.

I like the 500 but I would only buy one if portabilty is a real concern (its not for me).
