Portable sampler for my XL-7?
hi folks
Do you know of a small, portable sampler that I could trigger live with my XL-7 Command Station? I've been doing a lot of interesting sample creation/mutation with the ASR-10 and E5000, but I'm wary of lugging them out to gigs just to act as romplers for my XL-7. There must be a small, cheap, MIDI-triggered sample device out there, right??? Any ideas?
Clueless and hungry for lunch,
Malik

not sure what you are looking for..are you looking for kinda linear sampling? I sense that this Akai CD-rom compatible Roland JS-30 sampler might be the one that you are looking for: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_ar ... djs30.html

Thanks lads! That Roland is a pretty sexy beast, but no storage facility??? Yikes!
I'm basically looking for a device that can store samples and respond to MIDI notes from an outside controller. (and perhaps do some basic sort of mapping) I'd prefer it not be a rackmount unit, as I already have a collection of these which I would never lug to a live show!
SU-10 may be right down my alley...just hard to come by.
Off-the-topic- I tried transmulting last night on my E5000...now I know where I can go for "the sound."

what you might also potentially consider is an ASR-X Pro.
since you're already using the ASR-10 this might be a good option.
btw, i like your taste, both the ASR-10 and E5000 are two of the coolest samplers ever. i'm not quite sure if the ASR-X will be what you're looking for, but personally i find it and Roland's SP-808 extremely useful and they're both fairly cheap these days.

??? It got SCSI port as standard equipment..with a maximum HD space of 600Mb. You can even load AKAI CDroms..or if you don't mind some keys, the DJ-70mkII is even a much better choice. Got disk drive! yeaah..S-750 engine based, up to 32 mb and that SCSI as standard.Malik wrote:Thanks lads! That Roland is a pretty sexy beast, but no storage facility??? Yikes!

But if you don't need the linear sampling function, the Roland SP-404 is could be the smallest and meanest midi triggered phrase sampler out there.

Thanks, Seph! It's one I've grown to love. The E5000 is just so user-friendly while being deep, and the ASR-10 is just a classic- like Rocky. Lots of quirks, a pretty limited vocabulary, but endless possibilities and winning combos._seph wrote:what you might also potentially consider is an ASR-X Pro.

The ASR-X may just be the ticket I need for some good sounds. Excellent thinking.

A SP303/404/505/555/606 might be what you're after.
Do your homework, and see what unit has/does what you need it to, but the XL7 should be able to trigger it, no sweat.
