Do you have the Smart Media blues?

Post by Sorcerio » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:02 am

Well here is a cheap and effective cure that I am happy to report works perfectly in my Korg ESX!

This:

Find them just about anywhere. Look in the bargain bins at Staples or Office Depot.

Unfortunately won't work with all the Rolands that need 5V cards... :(

i was confused about why people were all bent out of shape about smart media on x device until i tried to buy one a few weeks back and couldn't find any.

had they all been discontinued as in the 3p3 and the 5v are both out of production now? (sorry if i dont pay attention to the latest media gossip - but i really had no idea)

You also have to be careful with that SM to xD adapter. Not so much with it, but the media. If you plan on using that, you need to make sure you do not exceed the original amount of memory that the unit takes ie. Korg ES-1 only takes up to 64mb. You can't use an xD card higher than that. The ESX/EMX's use 128mb, so no going over that with an xD. Hope this helps. :)

why can't there just be one universal memory card format? that would make so many headaches go away...

Ahahah, don't get me started on the Sony Memorystick... I hate manufacturers who lock you into a proprietary memory format or, even worse, a legacy format.

Don't get me started either. I just bought my Korg ESX new. Then I try to look for the damn memory cards to find out that they have been discontinued for a couple of years. WTF. You'd think that a product that is currently on shelves would have been updated to let people actually use one of the main features without having to search high and low and come up with some alternative way to make it work. There's no midi sample dumping on this either. So the little card adapter is the only practical (affordable) way. I say again, WTF!

oh well. I'm not complaining really. It was cheap and it works. That's all I care about.

Aww c**p. I wish I had checked NewEgg (or this post) before I picked one up from eBay.
I just paid about 4x as much for mine. Ah well, it still wasn't all that expensive.
