Any word on a CF drive in a Roland SP-808? I saw someone mention it in this thread, and I know the ideas has been floating around unsuccessfully for years. Perhaps the chaps over at SCSIforsamplers.com have some insight on this.

Thanks!

AWww man.. SCSI for samplers got bought out by MPC stuff.
I wanted my VP9000 to get all modern like.. you snooze you lose I guess.

bummer.

Dumb question, I hate SCSI, so I'm a bit ignorant here.. but is there anyway to load wav files directly into my VP9000 from my laptop?

You could still try MPC for your SCSI stuff, as most scsi bits are generic to different samplers.

I bought an external ZIP drive for my SP 808ex. I have the SCSI-digital-optical expansion on board.

However I was never able to use it, since as soon as I connect it, the SP 808 turns off. I don't understand what's happening, why it does not turn on if I try to connect the external zip. :(

For anyone looking for SCSIforSamplers.com and SCSI storage gear, the website is now called SCSICardReaders.com. Still run by the same guy (JD) and still selling most of the same products, so if you need a card reader drive or any SCSI help, please check us out.

So, in the long run, is it better to get an internal SCSI HDD for akai s3000xl or go the not so cheap scsi to cf or scsi to ide to cf ?

Considering that you're going to be buying a drive that is at least several years old, I disrecommend the use of internal SCSI hard drives.

I know, and you could get them really cheap, i thing age is creeping up to them. On the other hand, CF adapters are costly, and much more than i paid my akai ( $75 for mint condition, but no efx boards )

I have successfully installed SCSI on my EPS16+, and am using a working zip drive for storage. It's an Iomega100, and the SCSI card SP-2 ($150) was bought from Straylight Engineering http://www.straylightengineering.com/, who is a great dude to deal with, and helped with some install questions. Just thought I'd post here for anyone else interested.

It's nice. He also built in the SCSI termination which the Eps16 requires to work with most anything. I would recommend him to anyone that's crazy enough to sink money into these sort of things.

FWIW

I have an Iomega Jaz drive (SCSI) connected to my Akai s3200xl and it works like a dream.

The Akai external drive scsi ID is 5 and I have to re-set the scsi number on the Akai to 3 so it sees the external drive each time I boot it up (I had trouble accessing the Jaz drive when the Jaz was set to ID5)

Other than that, no problems.... it reads/writes to the disk really fast and there's heaps of room as each disk is 1Gb (I got 3 disks and the drive as a bundle off ebay)
