may be because the 4000 have wider compatibility such with the Akai, Roland and EMU CD-ROM libraries (programs and samples), also a bigger memory which is 272MB standard and expandable to 512MB. and it was released when the USB sampler still not very popular.PitchBender wrote:that's odd considering their asking price for a new MPC 4000

I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded a lot like an Ion...crystalmsc wrote:so, Akai is back into the synth worldPolarAC wrote:Its got a 3 osc VA this timeit supposed to sounds good, specially with the new filter.

$3500 is overpriced, though. What I want to know is, are those 8 tracks for streaming stereo or mono? I'll bet they're mono.
And 8 simultaneous effects, given typical CPU power today? That's pretty meagre. While the VA is definitely a nice addition, it would've been nicer to be able to free up that DSP and use it for more effects. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed; I rather like my MPC1000, but I feel Akai missed the boat somewhat.
Of course, who knows what may happen to it if/when JJ works his magic...

well people like them. You get a certain feeling writing with a mpc that you just cant get from a PC in anyway. I like them a lot but Its not how I like to write. I do notice I write totally different when using a mpc and when writing in logic.Altitude wrote:I still don't get how they sell these for 3500. You can buy a brand new Macpro with 8 cores and a 20 in display for less
I was reading the mpc forums and i kinda agree with what they said about it "Akai needs to finish there other products". I mean dont get me wrong i love my mpc 1k its still my main means of drumming and sampling and lord knows i probably wouldnt have liked it as much if JJ didnt make his sweet OS for it (that OS is a godsend). I could care less about the synth aspect of the 5000, why not just prefect what they have already?
On another note I think most people will get on the Linndrum II anyways, I know i am (doesnt mean i will get rid of my mpc though) I can't wait for the xox and mpc style drumming. So i think the 5000 will probably not make much headway esp when the Linndrum II comes out.
