MPC 2000XL :(

This screen issue's a real bummer.

Called VST today and they told me that its likely that no one will EVER make another screen for it.

And yet, I can get replacement buttons & pots for an '808, '303, or '909.

I know screen's are much more complex than buttons or pots, and that the old roland stuff is classic.

But damn.

I bet there are way more 2000XL users out there than '808 users, so i bet theirs a bigger demand 'em.

Couldn't ONE third party start manufacturing after market screens?

Is it possible to replace it with another screen? Are there other Akai things that use the same one? I know some of the S series samplers use the same display as the MPC 3000 and that was my plan for parts if I ever needed them.

I'm sure that you can work around this, but it might not be easy and maybe you don't want it that bad.

arg, didn't think of that, I'll call tomorrow when they open, maybe another will work; they just don't fit in the proper housing... hopefully that's the case cause aesthetics wont matter on such an ugly piece of kit :)

Check ebay. People will often sell scrapped parts like that

To the OP, did you try contacting Forat (MPC Specialist).

Got mine repaired there when I had trouble years ago.

**Nevermind. I just cecked it out and it read that they were discontinued :(

Yeah the craftsmanship that must of went into building the 2k is obviously not as good as say the work that must of went into building the 3000 and 60 when roger linn was still around.
Akai took a noticeable turn for the worst after he left with Quantity overriding QUALITY!

My hardly used but kept in mint condition 2k has a dead pad on the bottom row.

No explanation for that happening as i was never rough with it and always took incredible care of it.
Chalk it up to inferior materials i suppose :?
