Here is the Roland S-50 and 330 Library!

Post by D-Collector » Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:59 pm

thesnake383 posted a question in the help forum earlier about conversion of the Roland S-50 samples. I was then inspired to take on the task of converting all of the S-50 library disks to a more suitable format. I used Chicken Systems Translator to convert them to Akai S5000 sample format, (.akp) as that preserved all the loop points fine (it did not with soundfont, like thesnake383 said). It's missing one disk though (BANK04, DISK06), because the rar file in the Roland Sampler Users' Group Archive was corrupt. As soon as I get hold of it it I will update my download.

If you want you can use Extreme Sample Converter to further convert the programs to any other format, like soundfont or kontakt. The standard sampler in Orion played the akai files nicely, and so should other quality soft-samplers.

I have organized the samples according to original bank and disk. The wav files are in there too, not hidden like in soundfont, so if you want to build own programs from the samples nothing is stopping you. One thing is for sure, this is a great library!

UPDATE:

I added the Roland S-330 System Disks, containing samples like the famous rave choir. Converted to wave and .akp Akai programs with Translator, like the S-550 library.

UPDATE October 2014:

The S-330, S-50 and S-550 files can all be downloaded here:

Lovely. Could you make it a zip file instead of an exe? Then us Mac users could use it :)

It is a self-extracting rar file. You should be able to open and extract it with UnRarX.

But I will change it to zip in a short while.

No problem! ;)

I have added a zip mirror to the original post just in case.

Wow!
:D
Thank you very much for posting this!
I really appreciate all the work that went into doing this.
I would like to do this with the original ensoniq mirage library, but I don't know if I can since syntaur.com still offers the original disk for sale.

Can someone do the Ensoniq Mirage Piano and Strings please? Old school Detroit classic!!!

Any classics hidden away in this Roland library?

Is there a free sample translator anywhere that converts to S1000 or S3000 or EIIIx? I'd rather not spend the 75 Euros they're asking for Extreme Sample Converter.

Well, this makes my job so much easier. Thanks :P

I remember hearing the classic fairlight "vox" sound in this video, so supposedly it's hidden away somewhere in the library.

You're welcome! I saw you requested this on YouTube..

The Fairlight ARR1 is in "Air Disk No.1".

In this library that is:
BANK 2, DISK 8

But you can also find it in some other banks, notably "Techno Set". BANK 6, DISK 6.

Here are the full disk descriptions for the S-50 and S-550 libraries, so you can see what is in each bank:

if anyone has the ability to upload these files as disc images of akai formatted disks, i will grab them and turn them into reason refills if anyone is interested.

the reason "reload" program needs to start with akai cd images, it can't read the single files.

with the disc images, all looping and mapping will be imported as well.

if i can make the refill, i will put it online for anyone who wants it.

kind regards.
