And that qwerty keyboard.. Seeing as the "PC" has your normal PS/2 and USB ports, are anyone at all gonna use that keyboard?

Agreed, they should have a cut down option to purchase just the card and the software so you can use your own PC, audio interface and music keyboard. I'm not convinced of the usefulness of the light pen either, in an upright position it's un natural and uncomfortable. We've moved on since then see here.

Speechless, heartbroken... I got to handle that to CS_TBL - I'm sure anyone wouldn't like that. Till the end I believed they've built an embedded system.

Actually, that Hifi is what I'm after - It had some of most beautiful "raw" sounding strings and choirs I ever heard.

Each year it's either CMI or US Trip, obviously the latter has been winning for the last three year.

Ya, the choir is special. You don't need a series 3 to play those samples though. I bought the HD from one and ported the samples into Kontakt. Much cheaper! I really don't think the slight difference in sound quality is worth the cost and effort of a series 3. A IIx is is a different story

I for one wish all transport controllers used keys from mechanical keyboards. Such a satisfying click to hit play. Far better than a rubber dumpling or a plastic click key with no travel whatsoever.

Or put it on an iPad. h**l, the keypad is already an iPad touch/iPhone - but that's actually one of the good ideas in this design. On the other hand, phones are pretty disposable, prone to change shape (good luck in finding a working iPhone of a particular revision after 20 years to edit godknowswhat) and even more subject to the kind of evolution that gets most folks pissed off at computers.

OK, if they retain all the normal Fairlight sound/video editing stuff and add the Fairlight sampler on top, maybe it's worth it, but why would anyone buy the Fairlight remake just to be able to play Fairlight sounds?

I saw a Akai S6000 with 256 MB RAM and USB card for sale for 250 Euros today. What can the Fairlight do that a S6000 can't (except for the onscreen drawing and page R)?

When the Fairlight came in the 80s it was cutting edge. Stereo sampling, large memory, etc. But in a world where a 8 GB mp3 player can be found for 40 dollars and secondhand top-end samplers can be bought for the same price as a dinner at a nice restaurant?

Not at all. I just fail so see the charm of buying yesterdays technology for a high price.

Who is seriously thinking to buy the re-issued Fairlight? Who are the intended customers?


When it was originally released it gave a competitive advantage to the ones who could afford it, it cost as much as a house when fully kitted out. Today everyone has similar technology available for free. It's called progress and technological evolution.

To give P. Vogel a justice, CC-1 isn't exactly "yesterday's technology". Though I am in agreement with others, a PC with a PCI card and MADI literally nailed into it's side just for sentiment - does not compute.

Positive tactile feedback is indeed a wonderful and very useful thing. Today, however, it unfortunately seems to get very little of the attention it deserves. Hopefully the progenitors of this thing put it in there for its proper reasons, not merely to be "retro" -- like the quaint monitor case. Seriously....

Doesn't look like the light pen is working too well in the first minutes, and the sequences he plays in Page-R does little to convince anyone. A little sad I think.
