Ok, so I drank too much coffee, so I decided to stick the MPX8 update file in audacity as raw data, surprisingly I got to see the binary layout, hear all the built in samples, and one that don't seem to be accessible by normal means, a small "hey"?

here is my findings...

Hello from Spain.

I´ve read a lot forums about the mpx8, 90% of them put it as rubish. After have read this forum i´ve bought the mpx8 and I only have great words for this machine. I play keyboard in several bands, and after a few rehearsals everyone that hear my samples and FX, get atonished with the versatility, portable and how cheap the samples is. If everybody read the manual or investigated the web a little bit, i´m sure that the opinion for this machine would change.

Thank you for the efforts, keep going!

I couldn't get into any of it myself, so I did a hardware hack on it so it would recognize my Yammy drums, Kawai Keyboards, Korg etc, it wouldn't work properly with anything. I'm into MIDI so I figured it out pretty quick. Seems the guys at Akai didn't read the MIDI spec....or past the first 2 pages.

I have mine remotely changing pitch and loading samples via MIDI PC, which (albeit slow to load) is just what I need for the stage.

Here's my Fix page http://freshnelly.com/mpx8.htm
and video

I'm not a professional and I figured it out, why can't they??

Cheers!

Hey DX21, Can you explain how the pad calibration works? I've booted in the mode, but when I tap each pad, it just shows the velocity at which I've most recently tapped. I don't see any way to set the min/max or anything like that. And I'm not noticing much of a difference when I reboot. Thanks!

Hi, did anyone get a copy of the file pointed by http://www.icmedeli.com/download/M2000SPEC.pdf ?
I might try to hack the MPX8 firmware a bit, but I have trouble finding any doc on that Medeli chip...
