akai S1000 instant magic

Quick tip for everyone that cant be bothered to menu dive and sample into the unit.

step 1
make sure you have the ib-104 expansion card

Quite rare to come by but worth the price in admission for instant mojo.

step 2
use your soundcard to either send a stereo signal out via spdif/optical/aes
(you can use spdif to aes providing the cable run is short)

step 3
go into sample mode choose digital/stero and monitor the signal

Instant akai s1000 converter colour.

can be used as a colouring DAC for instant mojo.

Wouldn't sampling through the optical/digital ports pretty much remove the converter process..?

remove the A/d conversion yes, but not the DA converters.

in - digital
out - analog

So essentially a late 80's Dac no sampling needed.



left is after using the s1000 DA stage, right is the heavily limited original file that was sent to the s1000 via the digital input.

hard to show the magic in a picture but it should suffice.

Try it out.

Use the analogue sample inputs for major mojo.
The digital ins don't let you push your samples into the red, which is where individual sounds can really be slammed and sound good through the S1000's squashing and clipping.

Hello,

I'm having problems sending audio from my soundcard to the akai ib-104 expansion card.
motu828 mk3
Ableton output 15/16
optical out adat to optical in Akai

to Akai Source: Digital, Input: Optical.

I get !! Lost Carrier!! message in the REC2 section when I want to record samples.

I am doing something wrong here?

Did you switch the optical out of the Motu from ADAT to S/PDIF?

Thank you Tidda it's working! Switching Adat to Toslink in Ableton (audio card setup)

I tought Spdif was only the coaxial plug.
