Hey VSE, I belong to a website called BattleOfTheBits.org. It was initially built around chiptune and sample-based tracker music about 9 years ago, but has expanded gradually to include a little of everything. We host "battles" constantly, with at least one "major battle" happening at all times. There is a submission period of several days, followed by a voting period of several days, with the winners ranked within several categories at the end.
Our current contest was my brainchild:
A Fairlight Page R composition contest! I understand that very few people have an actual working Fairlight CMI, but the rules have been made in such a way that one could approximate that sound fairly faithfully. We're not going for 100% authenticity here, just to use the original samples from the IIx library and make some great 80s tunes.
Have a look! Don't be put off by the quirkiness of the site...it really is endearing once you get past the "WTF is this" stage.

BTW - if you don't wish to participate, you can still enjoy the music! We have a Bandcamp page:
http://battleofthebits.bandcamp.com/ where the top scoring entries from all of our completed major compos end up.
