Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
Bought a TX16 last week, during some of my searches for Info on it, I vaguely remember seeing about slaving 2 units together thru the 422 port, anyone try this, I have a chance to get another one, which I'm going to get either way .

Never heard of it. Seems kind of redundant, unless you had to have a stereo voice with more than 8 notes of polyphony.

Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
It was just a curious question, I might try it, what's the worse that could happen....

Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
If you're using Typhoon 2000, which you should, nothing will happen because it doesn't support the port.

Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
Don't waste your time with the Yamaha OS make sure you get a copy of Typhoon, ( http://nuedge.net/typhoon2000/Typhoon2000.htm ) it offers a lot more functions like time stretching file compression so you have more space and actual Dynamic voice allocation. They even tweek the filter as much as they could. Typhoon 2000, a freeware OS provides much easier handling, support for RS422 (you can connect it directly to the built-in MIDI interface of a Mac for SCSI-like communication), 17 factory filters and support for the AIFF audio format. Typhoon is a must have to stay healthy while working with this sampler.

Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
Yes but only if you have a pre USB Mac i.e. from 1999 or earlier. To correct my earlier mistake, Typhoon v 1.0 manual states MIDI is supported on the port, and it can be used for faster MIDI SDS. So it still won't work for expanding polyphony. I always thought the SDS was redundant because Typhoon supports AIFF and uses MS-DOS format discs. By far the fastest and most convenient way to work with a computer. Maybe if you want to dump from another sampler the SDS would be useful. I didn't see the pinouts in the manual though?
Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
Pinout according to ISO 4903, signals are balanced, always a pair:

X.21 Serial 15 pin Connector

Mac RS-422 Serial Connector

Re: Slave 2 Yamaha TX16W
I've been searching the web for the video I saw where these two German guys in their broken English were talking about doing this, If I remember the guy said that would he would do is use Typoon to record samples with but He would use the Yamaha OS to play back the slaved units , the idea was not to play back in stereo, but to play a sample and it's modified version at the same time,
kind of mute point right now, I didn't get the 2nd TX16W, but I am looking for a 2nd
