HELP! Nine Inch Nails Synth sounds

Post by crustlord666 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 5:08 am

Hello synth experts of the world,
I'm hoping someone out there can help me pull apart what I'm hearing on some NIN songs so I can try to emulate them on the cheap with software for a cover set. Does anyone know what Trent was using on the Pretty Hate Machine and Broken records? Any tips for emulating those sounds? I'm new to synths and would love some guidance on this. Are there resources I'm unaware of other than listening and asking on forums to help me with this quest?
Thanks!

I don’t know anything about the band but wasn’t TR a Prophet 5 user?

Early NIN was heavy on the Oberheim Xpander, Prophet VS, and (very heavily) Emax samples. A little bit later the Nord Lead was also a go to. There are plenty of threads on t3h Interwebs that will tell you more in detail.

Trent was also a big fan of Turbosynth on the Mac
