Cheetah MD8, loading sounds

Postby Kentronix » Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:00 pm

Hello everybody peeps !

I have been trying to revive my old Cheetah MD8 drum machine recently, I have got to the point where it all seems to work but the drum sounds are corrupt, which isn't surprising, I got hold of a wav file of the original sounds tape for it but I cant get it to work.

Playing from a PC into the Cheetah I cant even get it to recognise that its a file let alone successfully load it. Has anybody managed this ? Does anybody have any tips for loading wav's into old tape based devices ?

Its an un-encoded wav and I have all sound enhancements in windows turned off.

Have you tried adjusting the level going in? Are you using a mono cable?

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah, I tried starting really low, then turning it up a bit and trying again, etc. Spent about an hour doing this.

Yes, I was using a mono cable. I have no idea what kind of output those old computer tape decks were, line level I assume, I guess my PC could be auto sensing or something, its a line/headphone socket.

The machine itself is very basic I assume at some point it should spot a file coming and display its filename on screen.
