Yamaha DX7 Unwanted Explosion Distortion?????

Post by dxcultmaster » Sun Sep 20, 2020 1:12 am

In summary, I can't hold more than 3 keys down at a time. If I hold 4 or more keys down on any of the voice presets, the note that plays sounds like an explosion that's supper distorted. When I first got it, this problem only existed for some of the voice presets, and I only got distortion with 5 or more keys, but it has since worsened. I haven't done anything to try and fix it yet, just gathering information so far.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Seeing as it got gradually worse over time, check capacitors in the audio or summing path. I don't know for sure. You will have to check in the service manual.
