Help! Finding values of keyboards...

Post by Red Sector Eh » Sun Nov 19, 2006 7:27 pm

Hi,
I'm a bass player by trade and don't know too much about synthesizers. A keyboard player who owes me some money is offering me gear in lieu of cash. Then i'm supposed to sell them to recoup my dough. I trust what he's telling me the stuff is worth, but i wan't to be sure i'll be able to unload it ok. I was directed to this website by a studio engineer i know who said you guys really know your stuff. And music stores always lowball big time on what they'll offer for used gear- i know that from my years as a bassist. So...

Is there a "blue book" of sorts for synth gear, or would you guys be able to give me your opinions & feedback on what the pieces are worth?

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you go to eBay.com and go for "Completed Listings" (left column), you'll get an idea of what the synths go for. You can also go to SonicState.com and have a look at the "Recent Prices" underneath the synth picture. By doing an average, you should be able to evaluate the worth of each synth.

Boy that was fast! Thanks for the help guys. 8) Of course i thought about eBay and have bookmarked a couple of auctions, but i want to sell these in the local buy/sell paper here in Toronto so i don't have to worry about shipping, fees etc. But i noticed you have a Classifieds forum- cool. Ok- here's what he's offering me:

1a) Roland JD-800 synthesizer in excellent condition
-includes printed manual
b) "Strings Ensemble" sound library card set for the 800

2) Roland JP-8080 synth module in excellent condition
-includes original manual & Roland Smart Media Card

3a) E-MU E-Synth sampling keyboard in excellent cond'n
b) "complete" genuine E-MU sample library CD-ROMS
c) "SCSI" (?) 16x CD-ROM drive w/ cable
d) "SCSI" 2MB hard drive w/ cable & "terminator"

4) Roland SP-606 Sampling Workstation in Mint cond'n
-w/ original manual

Again, any help on this stuff would be greatly appreciated! In the mean time i'll do some homework by checking SonicState.com. Thanks.

Prepal is out of date, just like the VSE listing.

Sam, thanks for the prices- i'll have to convert to CAD funds.

And thanks for the heads up about PrePal, guys. If it's 2yrs out of date it's obviously useless. I'll have to watch eBay unless somebody here has some ideas.

The EU prices are a bit high for this side of the pond... In the US the JD-800 and JP-8080 both go for around $450-500...

Thanks, dougt.

Should i include the String Ensemble card set with the JD-800 or sell it (them) separately? Are the cards worth anything or are they kind of a toss in?

The SP-606 seems to be a fairly recent machine, but I haven't been able to find anything on the E-Synth, the accompanying E-MU sample library, or the SCSI gear so far. Maybe i'll tell him to keep that stuff.

You might get $25 for the card on ebay...
