Yamaha TX81Z Patches, how do I transfer them to the unit?

Post by Damo303 » Sat Nov 25, 2006 1:15 am

How do I send Sysex patches to a Yamaha TX81Z?

I use a Mac and I have an application called 'SysEx Librarian' which i've tried to use to send the patches via midi but although it appears to send something from the Mac the files do not appear on the TX81Z.

I have turned off write protect on the TX81Z but still no success.

Anyone take me through it?

Is there any settings i'm missing?

Where will the new presets appear?

Also where is the best place to download patches?

:?

I don't know about the TX81Z, but on the DX7, you have to tell it to respond to incoming Sysex messages (the menu is accessed by pressing Function+8 two or three times)...I assume it's similar on yours.
"Sure that's fine in practice, but what about in theory?"

I've never tried transferring patches to my TX, but I have used sysex with it: you do have to tell it to recognise sysex, and on what midi channel. Go into Utility, scroll until you see MIDI CONTROL? and press YES. Then scroll with left/right until you find the appropriate options for channel and exclusive.
