CAN ANYONE IDENTIFY THIS MACHINE

Post by soularpower » Tue Feb 20, 2007 11:05 am

Hey all,
OK get ready to prickle up your ears :D
Here's a clip from a track I recorded about 10 years ago.

Can anyone recognise what drum machine it is?? Apart from the drums it is also doing the strings and electroniky high sound thingy. The machine was small and black. I thought it might be the BOSS DR-550 MKII but it isn't. The other thing I have found that it might be is the Roland R8 but really don't know. HELP!!

Rock on!!

Not my friggin hero.. not today anyway ahahahaha!! Thanks all the same!!
The Alesis SR-17 only has drum sounds. This little box i used WAS a drum machine, but it also could do some instrument sounds. Any other ideas, anyone?? :D :D

A drum machine that can also make instrument sounds? Though I loathe to say it, the only instrument I can think of like that from 10 years ago is the Roland MC303 or the Roland MC505 (the latter of which was released a little less than 10 years ago).
Korg MS20 & Wavestation A/D, Roland Juno 60 & Juno 106 & MKS50 & D110 & MC202, Ensoniq EPS, Yamaha FB01, SP07b, Casio CZ5000 & SK1, Alesis Micron, Cakewalk Z3ta+, Propellerhead Reason, Garriton Personal Orchestra

Thanks for that. It's definitely not a groove box. But, is a drum machine with a few instrument sounds on it really so uncommon? For example, I used to have the Roland TD-10 VDrums brain and that had some instrument sounds on it too.

Whatever it was, it did look very much like the Boss DR-550 and the Alesis SR-16, but it isn't either of those modules.

Many of the drum machines

can produce other sounds, wheher a a separate track dedicated to bass sounds (and playing them at higher pitches can give lead synth, guitar, or string sounds). I have accomplished this with the Boss DR 660/770, ZOOM RT223, amongst others.
Currently using (may sell later) EMU MP-7, ENSONIQ MR76, ROLAND RA95, ZOOM RT223, KORG D12, BOSS 1200CD, KORG Karma, Roland TR77, YAMAHA QY100, Hohner Melodica, and such.

Well, the 660/770 doesn't fit the description of a dark coloured unit. It's not the zoom, but we still think it is the DR-550 MKII, even though the specs show no sign that there are string sounds on it, and the people we asked on ebay say there are no instrument sounds on it. Sometimes when you midi something up you get access to more sounds, ya know??

Could it possibly be the Boss Dr Rhythm DR-5. I had one and it does have tons of instrument voices and synth sounds. I also had gotten it a little over 10 years ago.
