Post by bionary » Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:25 am

Does anyone have or know where I can download a manual for the Akai ME20A MIDI Arpeggiator?

That's pretty funny. I"ve asked this same question before. I found a website that was selling a bunch of manuals and they had one for it but it was way overpriced.

You don't want to buy a second one do you? Arpeggios driving arpeggios!! madness...
so what do I put down here now?

I'd be interested in such a manual too. I have an Akai ME-20A, and I can't figure out how to use it. The problem is that the manuals cost more than I paid for the thing. It's rather hard to justify that kind of a purchase.

only thing is i can't figure out how to use it even with the manual. maybe im just slow or my synth isn't compatible. i have the me20a hooked up to my kawai k3, but when i play a note the midi signal led doesnt light up :(

i have an ME10 midi delay, all you have to do to use it is power it up & loop it w/ a synth's midi in/out.

synth midi out - ME10D midi in
ME10D midi out - synth midi in

kind of sucks how it doesn't have a thru. can run its out to a 2nd synth though so that your 1st notes are played by your 1st synth and the echo notes are played by the 2nd synth.

weird little contraption. imagine the ME20A is too. good luck!

That would be very cool if you would scan the manual. Thank you.

The Akai ME20A Manual in PDF is available here - http://www.midimanuals.com and also here http://bit.ly/1oSgqu1

For the electronics DIY enthusiasts, I found this interesting tidbit online;
"My biggest complaint about the Akai ME20A is the arpeggios that do not sync to any incoming MIDI clock signals. I tried to add a clock input, but due to the design I was unsuccessful. With the help of Jürgen Haible, I was able to post gate output to the device. This gate output can be used to drive any analog sequencer, or used to fire notes from an analog synth. The rate of the gate outputs is then controllable via the ME20A's "Speed" control. This schematic is Juergen's design, I just redrew it to make it a little clearer. I also added the Akai component names to make it easier to find the places to connect the wires. The diode can be any signal diode (1N4148 or 1N914) and you can use any general purpose transistor that you have handy. The +5V source and ground can easily be taken from right around the 7905 voltage regulator ... Actually there are more holes in the PCB for capacitors (that were not installed in my unit) that can be used to attach to."

The updated schematic mentioned above can be found via the Wayback Time Machine from a post back in 2002;
