Roland SH-101 pitch wheel?

Post by shopunit » Thu May 01, 2008 1:46 am

I've had my SH-101 in the shop for over a month now- it had various problems (sticking and non-responsive keys which needed new contacts, missing screws for the MGS-1 grip, etc) but the biggest concern of mine was that the pitch wheel on the front of the synth does not bend notes up or down a whole octave. The MGS-1 grip, however, bends notes a full octave, but it can only raise the pitch an octave- it cannot lower the pitch at all. Those of you who own 101s already know this- but my question is aimed at those more experienced 101 owners- is this business with the pitch wheel normal? The mechanic who is working on it right now tells me that it's just the way the synth is wired- the grip will bend up a full octave but the on-board pitch wheel will neither bend upwards nor downwards a full octave. So my question is- if this is the normal setup for the 101- what the h**l??? How come nobody else seems to have a problem with this? My tech says it can't be fixed either :/
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!
there is nothing more serious than humor- and that's no joke.

Mine can bend more than an octave both ways. Something like 11 semitones in each direction.

11 semitones is less than an octave...
