waldorf microwave 1 sysex troubles

Post by replicalex » Mon Aug 18, 2008 11:05 pm

Does anyone have any experience using a Novation Remote Sl to control (via sysex) a microwave I.
I've d/loaded a template and it loads into the remote sl ok.
Then it goes wierd. :(
twisting some of the knobs and sliders do produce a change in the sound,
eg: filterfreq (a good obvious tester) but it sounds like it just jumps to a random value then sticks it does not sweep through the filter as it should...same with resonance.
It does the jump and stick then twisting the knob does nothing again.
most knobs / sliders do nowt.
The parameters edit ok from the front panel and the keyboard triggers the synth no bother (pitch bend and mod too)
so I know the synth is working and its getting midi ok.
i'm a total newb when it comes to sysex, any ideas what I'm doing wrong? :?
I've searched here and the only usefull bit of info I gleaned was that clusterchord has these in his/her??? :) setup.
Dont really wanna PM clusterchord outta the blue though.

First off, sorry if I sound vaporous or if I didn't get your message right: I'm dizzy 24/24 due to a recent health issue.

You can't control by SysEx (short for System Exclusive), you control by MIDI. Wikipedia will clear it all up to you. And refer to your owner's manual. If you don't have it, use Google. You should find it.

Another method is to go to the manufacturer's website: www.waldorfmusic.de and go to Archive. They should have it in there.

Your manual will teach you the subtilities better than I can explain them to you.

Hope that helps

First up let me say thanks for replying.
Yeah, you kinda missed what I'm on about, maybe I didnt put it too well.
I'm well aware of the difference between MIDI and sysex.
I was wanting to use the RemoteSl to tweak the parameters on the MW in realtime.
To give it knobs, y'know? For that - its a sysex thing.
The good news is I found my answers on the waldorf user group.
What a bunch of helpful people they are!
Turns out its a bug in the template editor for the remote SL.
It does not upload ALL the settings in the MW template to the Remote.
There is a workaround, so if anyone reading this is having problems using an SL to 'tweak' the MW I,
PM me and I'll fill you in on how to do it.
I now have a Microwave I - with knobs! - it sounds f***ing great!
