Roland GR-50 won't fire up

Post by DJ Axon » Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:37 pm

This is a long shot..

I bought a GR-50 at a boot sale and it won't power up. When you push the power switch, there's a single flash from the display, same again when you turn it off again.

Any ideas? I've had a look inside and can't see any fried components - also cleaned the on/off switch, but no change.

I thought it would be a laugh to play my synths from a guitar via the GR's MIDI out!

I've got the service manual so I can say that it's not a fuse problem: there are no fuse in there.

I'd recommend that you see a tech to check it out. It can be a lot of things just from the power supply alone (the first place to start). First, we've got to make sure that it's alright in there with a routine voltage tests. After that, we go up until the source of the problem is found. It can be an easy fix as it can be a nightmare. That's the joy of electronics.

It's been 12 years since this was posted... but I've just been given a Roland GR-50 and have this exact problem as well.
If the OP is still around, I'd love to know if he solved it.
Or if anyone else has had this issue diagnosed, and can share what this symptom means.
