Sequential Circuits MULTI-TRAK low sound level!!!

Post by Eugene Tongue » Sun Sep 21, 2008 2:20 pm

Hi! Bought Multi-Trak on ebay. The output sound level is very low even on maximum "Master Volume" on all patches on all outputs. Can this problem be solved or it is okay for all Multi-Trak's? If i increase input gain on the mixer - terrible noise appears. Looks like something is wrong with a signal-to-noise ratio on the synth's output. When I play, it feels, that a dynamic range of the sound produced is very small, according to noise level. Multi-Trak Model 615, Serial #02163. Hope for your help. Thank you in advance.

I worked on one and noticed the same thing. I don't believe there is a volume calibration trim pot either.

You've got quite apparently a semi-dead op-amp at the output. So no, it's not normal and it should be fixed. I'd have to dig up my service manual to know which one but a tech should find it quickly by doing some routine tests.

Thank you, Maschinengeist, for your reply! Anyway if you can tell anything about that dead op-amp I'll try to fix it if I need to replace it with the new one only. I have some soldering skills, but I can't do routine tests myself :? :D Regards!

Try opening it up and seeing how many exclamation marks there are. There should be at least three, any less and that could be the source of your problem.

Sorry, Stab Frenzy, did not understand your idea :) exclamation marks should be written on the PCB? What does it mean? Thanks.

Don't worry, it was a poor attempt at humour. :D
