Patching A-100 to Roland System-100 - CV compatibility?

Post by username » Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:30 pm

I have a new (well... used) Roland system 100 101. I patched some of my A-100 CV modules into it and it seems to work great - that is, it produces the intended affect. Is there a risk of damaging the Roland if the Doepfer CV is incompatible? What about vice versa - patching the Roland's output into the Doepfer?

Roland gates tended to be really hot back then. I'm getting +13.3v on the kbd gate out on the 101. Doepfer gates are +5v and will usually trigger on less. So I'd think for safety's sake you ought not be pumping in signals over +10v to your A-100 though I doubt even +13.3v will cause damage. If concerned just check out the Sys 100 outs with a voltmeter. Doepfer is more or less working with +-5v, everything other than the gate I've checked out on a Sys 100 is within that range except the gate out which is way more. It's easy enough to deal with if concerned, just DIY a trim pot or use a CV mixer or get Doepfer's just announced attenuator module or maybe the Plan B one. As for Doepfer outs, I can't think of anything it puts out that would be at all risky.

Don't the Doepfer modules run on 12v power rails? Unless there's some attenutation or limiting going on at the Deopfer's inputs, I'd be wary of running 13+v into them. You could always run your triggers through an attentuator module though.

True, and going the other way... when I connected the Roland SH2 to my Kenton it just sat mute with a 5V pull up, the other option being a 15V pull up, which works fine. Not tried it on the SH101 yet.

on the other way of attenuators, is boosting the gate possible with any module or device? I would like to get a analog sequencer which seems to output 8V for gating, and that won't work with my system100. any idea? thanks

Way to dig up six year old threads :headbang: Welcome to the board!

Yes, there are modules that do that: amplifiers.
