Ensoniq ESQ-1 Sequencer
ok i just got an ESQ-1 today at a pawn shop (fully working).
the only thing i can't figure out is how to work the sequencer.
i try and press record but nothing happens, the record button works when i used it with soft button 1 to do a system reset, but i won't record what i play.
i'd like it if someone could please give me a step-by-step explanation of how to work the sequencer.

IRRC, you must press the 'SEQ' button first. then (again irrc) you will see the displays to enter length, meter, etc.
when you get to the 'track' page, the track name that is underlined is the one that will be recorded.
go to
http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/
for a copy of the manual. scroll down about half-way and look in the right column )ESQ MUSICIANS MANUAL COMPLETE)

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 Sequencer
Sounds like something that might be easy to fix.
"Here's the issue: It only works as a "sound module". You have to use another midi keyboard in order to access the sounds."
I'm guessing something came undone on the inside, whatever cable links the keyboard to the rest of the synth.

Read the manual. I couldn't figure out the sequencer on my SQ-80 (big bro of the ESQ1), until I browsed in the manual and found good step by step explanations. There are some great editing features in there that is hard to figure out without knowing what they do first. Found the SQ-80 manual online as a PDF scan.

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 Sequencer
It could be that it's stuck in local off mode...
Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 Sequencer
As long as you pick up, I don't think you can lose at that price. You could probably sell it off for the same. Perhaps more as an ESQ-M with a decorative keyboard. On the other hand, I don't know if the price has gone up recently, but you can often buy a working one for peanuts anyway- mine cost £50.
F-k it -buy the broken one -it won't sound any worse with a controller keyboard
