Roland D70 Conversion

Post by Malifatcat » Thu Jun 11, 2009 4:06 pm

Dear All,

Hello! I have only just discovered this place and can't believe the advice / information available!!

I have just bought a Roland D70 which has an American 2 ping plug on it.

The guy I bought it off had it plugged into some large transformer and then the transformer was plugged into the wall. According to Roland UK there is a 4 way universal transformer within the D70 that allows you to switch it over to UK voltage without the need for the external box.

I contacted a compnay who said that they could do this for £180!! Is is really that difficult?

A local electrician told me that you should be able to open up the D70 and, literally, turn a switch to the "UK" position.

Has anyone any knowledge of this procedure or any knowledge of what type of transformer is inside the D70.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

M.

Find a technician who can do it. A TV repair man could figure it out, it is easy.

My very grateful thanks to everyone who answered my question. Today, with help from my brother and the sage advice of Steve at Roland UK, I successfully converted my D70 to UK voltage!

Thank you!

Too true! I had one when they first came out and only ever really used the sounds that came with it; The programming looked a total nightmare, However, the band that I played in 20 years ago want to reform and I wanted to have exactly the same sounds that I used to have, which is the reason I bought this and a DX27!!

I know that there are better sounds and better synths out there, but I wanted to be true to our / my old sound. That said, IF anyone turns up to the gig, I doubt they'll even notice or care!!
