Casio CZ-101 ... dead?

Post by perplexagon » Sat Jan 23, 2010 1:31 am

I purchased a CZ-101 at a thrift store today, but it appears the unit may be dead. Several LEDs light up when powered on, both with power supply (it came with a non-Casio power supply, 9v 1A) and with batteries. The LCD powers on, but shows only a black bar at the top. No buttons appear to alter the LEDs that are lit, and no sound emits from the headphone or line outs.
Anyone have experience with a similar problem? Any diagnostic recommendations? Does it seem like this could have been caused by extended use with an incorrect power supply?
Most importantly, would it be worth the money to have the unit repaired?

for giggles try pressing the "P" button on the bottom og the unit... you will need a toothpick up a tiny screw driver... it might restore the program.

Good luck

Thanks. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to help. I opened it up and tried looking for any loose connections, but couldn't find anything. I guess I might try cleaning next.

Almost certainly a power supply (internal) issue. Have the schematics, will try to have a look soon.
