Roland SH-101 info needed

Post by man-009 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 9:07 pm

Is a RED Roland SH-101 with the grip in excellent shape worth more then say the GREY ones in the same shape? I was not sure and thought someone may know this? Is the RED 101 very rare? Thanks. Also, I know there is a more rare WHITE version. They made BLUE and GREEN 101's as well.

Red seems to be more rare than the blue which again seems more rare than the common grey.

Yes the going rate for the red seems higher than the grey. The blue as well.

Never seen a white for sale. Only white i've seen seems to be a custom paint job

Yes, red and blue ones go for more money that grey ones. With grips, even more so.
Not sure if there's any difference between red and blue ones (value- and scarcity-wise).

Has the existence (or non-existence) of non-custom white ones even been confirmed?

Never even heard of green ones.

The only green ones I know of are an army green kind of colour as a result of a Grey SH-101 fading.

I decided not to sell my red sh-101 with the grip. I almost let it go for under $800. I better hold on to it then. I will find another way to pay off a bill. it would have been a bad choice! Also, I think it was youtube that I saw a vid of a guy panning through his room and there being 3 white sh-101's and one red one! it was crazy! the 3 were all white!
I found another one but I think they were painted.....

also..is a roland MC-202 a 101 without keys?

Kind of. They have mostly the same synthesis features and sound (afaik, haven't done a side-to-side comparison). The 202 has a much more advanced (and more user-unfriendly) sequencer, though.

i probably paid too much, but i bought my grey one for just about $800. i sort of wanted a red one, but not enough to wait for a good one to come up.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

i got lucky on my red sh-101 with the grip. gc had it online for $999 so i decided to call and see if it was still for sale? sometimes they sell gear but the item still is posted. so i called and it was still in but he said one key got damaged from a synth falling on it about 10 min ago! they were going to lower the price but did not hear from the manager yet. so i told him i would wait on the phone while he asked...... he came back and said $650. i told him $600 and he was firm on $650 and almost let me go but after 10 min of talking more...he said ok! he told me the key that broke off would come with the synth and the power supply. later i called back to ask more questions since a pic was never posted yet of the 101 for sale. he told me the key was lost or someone tossed it out and they could not locate it. so then i said i had to have it since he said it came with it. he then put me on hold again..came back and said how about an even $500 then. man, i got a deal! found the g key and spring on ebay for $4.99. synth was mint besides the missing key. got the new one on and......
deal of a lifetime and at the right time!

Here it is! The key replacement was very easy! I cleaned it up, and now it's good to go!

I love the Red SH-101, I know it's just the looks, but I'd love to replace my grey one with the red model.
