M1 Rotary Speaker On/Off

Post by beehank » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:15 pm

I'm an old Hammond player but haven't owned one in 20+ years. I've had an M1 for about 15 years or so and have made do with organ patches but have never been able to figure out how to turn the Rotary Speaker effect on and off while playing live - real time. I do not have the Korg expression pedal but have tried with other volume type pedals to no avail. I understand it has to do with assigning the effect. Can it be assigned to the joy stick or only the pedal and do I have to have the original Korg pedal to make it work? Can anyone help on this?

Welcome to our crazy world!

Looking at the manual (I've never had an M1), it looks like you must go under the GLOBAL menu and set the correct effect (1 or 2) to EFFECT OFF/ON). SOME pedals are wired differently - you may need to get a KORG version.
Try that and let us know. I'm sure there are M1 fanatics here that can give you better advice.

I never played an M1 but I had an 01/W and on that the rotary effect on/off could be assigned to the value slider and/or to aftertouch, so try those.

+1 for Synthaholic's post. I've only played an M1 in a store, but I own an 01/W FD. To access the effects selection menu on the 01, press "edit program", and use the "page +" button to get to page 8, which is the effects page. You can select which effects you want to use on that particular program and how you want to activate the effects. This should be the same for the M1, according to the manual, but I can't be 100% sure.
