Best option for saxaphone
I need to be able to mic my sax and use sample sounds such as bagpipes. What is the best "all-in-one" unit that will be the most portable?

Re: Best option for saxaphone
Are you asking for a way to use your saxophone to trigger other sounds?
You might want to consider an EWI

There are models both for working with MIDI hardware and for use with a computer.
Lots of information on wind controllers here

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I want to be able to mic. my soprano sax and and make it sound like A bag pipe or other synthesized sounds. I have A gig that will require it to sound like the bagpipe.

You might try plugging a mic into this: http://www.sonuus.com/products_g2m.html
Though you might need some kind of DI or Re-Amp box in front of it to get the levels/impedance correct, depending on the type of mic.

MS20 using the pitch to voltage converter then getting a cv-midi converter and plugging that into a rompler module?
How much would that cost compared to just buying some cheap bagpipes?

Re: Best option for saxaphone
Also bagpipes are polyphonic and a sax isn't.

Look at this vid. and you will see what I am talking about. If the synthesizer used here could download instrument sounds it should work. Problem is how would you go about getting other instruments into this machine?

I looked at the vid.
pricklyrobot's suggestion for a Sonuus G2M plus a MIDI synth that can do bagpipe sounds would be your best bet.
Good luck

Re: Best option for saxaphone
90% of the distinctive sound of bagpipes is the drones. As your sax doesn't have drones you'll need to work out a way to simulate that otherwise it's not going to sound like bagpipes at all. Playing the most realistic bagpipe patch in the world isn't going to sound like bagpipes if you play it monophonically.

The problem with that machine is it's an old, analogue monophonic instrument. You can't download realistic instrument sounds into it.chefkevin wrote:Look at this vid. and you will see what I am talking about. It can make your sax sound like a farting duck if you wanted though.
