What's in Deadmau5's live set?

Post by Xces » Mon Jun 04, 2012 10:11 pm

I just had found a picture of Deadmau5's newest live set-up and there's somethings in it that look quite interesting but I can't figure out what they are

All that I can name off are:
Future Retro XS
Nord Rack 3
Access Virus
Presonus Studiolive Mixer
and a Moog Voyager

There is one thing on it though that looks sort of like some custom made monome, but I'm not to sure about

You mean this?

Image

The Synth below the Nord is a Cwejman S1, the stuff to the left of the desk is a Eurorack modular, with modules from Cwejman, Synthtech, STG and others. Below the XS is an SSL G bus compressor, not sure what's below that.

Hope he's not running everything though that Presonus, they sound terrible.

I don't think he pretends otherwise.

ha maybe not, but I just find it amusing that people wanna know what hardware he uses when it's pretty obvious he made his name with nothing but plugs, it's only now that he's famous that he buys all this hardware (multiple Buchla's etc)

He regularly streams video from his home studio, it's full of AWESOME analogue synths. The only software is Ableton Live.

Last time I saw his stream a few weeks ago he was still setting up studio. He had a Jupiter-6 in front of the computer, an ARP2600 standing on the floor, several big modular systems (a modcan I identified at least), and he recently got a fully serviced EMS Synthi AKS.

I asked him to show it, and he did, turned it on and messed around with a FM/Drone patch he had used on a recent recording. That's when he said the quote I put in my sig. Someone asked what that thing with lots of knobs was for.

We had a little talk about the instability of the EMS oscillators. He showed me that it was one the only synthis that could track notes over 4 octaves. But when he started patching in several VCO's it wouldn't stay in tune whatsoever.
Kind of hard to keep a steady conversation with a thousand fans clamouring for his attention on twitter at the same time.

Those analog monsters are not with him on tour though. I know there's a Nord rack 3 in the cube at least.

This is from his old studio, he set up lots of modular synths to play the Castlevania (NES game) theme via MIDI.
He posts on twitter ALOT, @deadmau5, but good luck getting his attention since he has over a million followers.
