JD800 pitch bend problem

Post by Phenom » Mon Sep 16, 2013 11:55 pm

My JD's pitch bend has decided the only way is up! Bending up is fine, bending down works for about a 3rd of the downward travel and then pushing any further sends the pitch up. I'm assuming it just needs a clean, or perhaps there is a recalibration preocedure which I'd rather use (not confident in opening it up).

Probably not too serious a problem, but it is my (kind of annoying) master keyboard so...

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Diagnostic mode shows the pitch bend goes down to about -80 or so before jumping straight up to +128. Wee bit of contact cleaner sprayed in topside but no joy, looks like I'm opening her up then... :(

Got out the service manual, but no sign of a reset/calibration method like on the JP-8000.
Sounds to me like maybe the pitch bend pot has cracked inside - maybe from a hard bump to the lever.

Thanks for your answer, no hard knocks to the pitchbend, but before this happened the last thing I remember doing was pushing hard for max modulation (which like the aftertouch requires a hard push).

I was hoping for a recalibration mode, which would have been great as the bender is sending out MIDI throughout its whole range, just not the right MIDI!!!

Diagnostic mode again, upward travel faulty as well goes down before it goes up now. Central position spitting out midi -1 or -2. Annoying. Recalibration would work it seems, but how to do it???
