din sync cable

Post by elsquirrel » Sun Dec 15, 2013 1:02 am

I have a pile midi cables, one being a din sync cable with all 5 pins connected. I'm not sure which one it is though.
Any danger in just hooking them up to test? I don't have any special tools for testing the pin connections.

I don't think it matters - I use any old midi cable for dinsync and they've all worked fine.

Most if not all DIN MIdi cables will have all 5 wires plugged in, hence why I can run my kawai k3 and my DX21 through my yamaha MD8 mixer and it doesn't disturb the sync at all.

have fun.

edit: It's midi Sync, not Dinsync, my bad.

Keep the two seperate an you'll be cool, but the cable,s are interchangeable.

No, cables are not completely interchangeable. At least not modern hi-quality midi cables. They will have only points 4 + 5 wired. Don't know about older midi cables though...

Of course, if you just buy standard din 1:1 cables, they will work for both. And they are usually way cheaper than midi cables from the "brands"...

I figured out which cable it was without having to test it. Didn't think using a wrong cable would be too dangerous, but had to check.

There's no danger, since DIN sync and MIDI use different pins. The worst thing that will happen is, if the cable doesn't have all five pins wired, it just won't work.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!
