Korg Volca Keys Through Yamaha as MIDI

Post by natomack » Wed Sep 30, 2015 12:01 pm

Hey everyone, First time poster here.

I'm having a hard time trying to get my Korg Volca Keys analogue synth to work with my old Yamaha W5 synth so I can use it as a MIDI controller. I've got a cable running from the MIDI in on the Korg to the MIDI out on the W5 and I've turned the Local to OFF in the MIDI setup menu on the W5 so it won't use the local soundbank. I still can't get any sound out of it though/it's not getting filtered through the Volca Keys. Really getting on my nerves!
Can anyone help?

Question #1: have you used MIDI with the Volca before this?

Question #2: have you read the Volca instruction sheet about setting up MIDI channels?
From my Volca Bass instructions (Keys should be similar):

1. Hold down Memory button then turn on the Volca.
2. Press a step button (1-16) to set the channel...press 1 for channel 1, etc.

That's it.
Question #3: have you tried a different MIDI cable? Check the channel settings on the Yamaha in Voice Play mode to make sure you are sending on the channel you think you are.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
