MC-909 transmit program/bank change?

Post by WillyCarrot » Sat Oct 10, 2015 9:41 am

Hello all,

I've searched high and low for a solution to this but I can't find it anywhere. So I hope someone here can help me out.

Right now, I use my MC909 as a controller for a Bass Station Rack, A-Station, Ultranova and U220.
On the MC909, Transmit Program and Transmit Bank Change are set to On. But every time I start a song, I have to manually set the bank/program on each of the external sound devices themselves, instead of the MC909 selecting them externally via MIDI.

Basically, I want the MC909 to select the bank and program on the external sound devices whenever I start a pattern on the MC909.

The sounds on the sound devices do play via MIDI from the MC909, and I've tried these settings on the MC909:

System
Version 1.23

Seq Sync
Sync Mode: Master/Remote
Sync Output: On
Arpeggio Sync Mode: Off
RPS Trigger Quantize: 16th
BPM Lock: Off

MIDI Tx
Transmit Program Change: On
Transmit Bank Select: On
Transmit Active Sensing: On
Transmit Patch Edit Type: TYPE-QUICK / TYPE-CC
Transmit Edit Data: On/Off
Soft Through: On

MIDI Rx
Remote Keyboard Switch: On
Device ID: 17
Receive Program Change: On
Receive Bank Select: On
Receive Exclusive: On

Thanks for your help!

What are the bank numbers of the external devices?
Bank Select MSB CC#0, 0~127 and LSB CC#32, 0~127.

MC-909 owner's manual, pattern editing, page 48~49.

If there's only one bank, insert program change 0~127 (1~128).
A-Station: no CC#0, CC#32 = 1~4, program change 0~99 (1~100) :?:
UltraNova: CC#0 = 0, CC#32 = 1~4, program change 0~126 (1~127) :?:

Hello Sonus,

Thanks for your swift reply.
My Bass Sation does not have any banks, or you could say: only one bank with 100 programs.
The U220 only has one bank with 128 programs.
The Ultranova has banks A, B, C and D with 128 programs each.
The A-Station has banks A, B, C and D with 128 programs each.

I was under the assumption that if Tx Program Change was turned on, local bank/program changes on the MC909 automatically also go to the devices downstream on the same MIDI channel. For example, I thought that if I selected bank D program 26 on the MC909 on MIDI channel 2, the A-Station (which has Rx MIDI channel 2) would automatically select bank D program 26. But nothing changes on the A-Station.

CC numbers I do not know yet how to use. Should I check in the MIDI specs of my devices if the MSB and LSB CC-numbers correspond to each other?

Which page of the manual are you referring to?

That did the trick! Thanks very much :D
