Hi
Yes there's no sound at all and I don't think it's anything to do with the master tune that looks normal
Here's a picture of its current display
I will have to use midi and download the patches I can't think of another way it looks like he cartridge is either the wrong type or not working property it doesn't come up with dx7 when you load it Image

It should work with the rom card.

Can you play the rom card without loading to internal memory?

Hi
No I've tried to load it but there is nothing there the display is blank as shown on my post
I'm sure it should say dx7 but it doesn't just says FM-Unfmtd

Considering your attempts and what you wrote I think it is rather likely that the data on your cartridge is damaged/corrupted. Not unlikely with data carriers that were produced decades ago.

That is really not a big deal. Anything you need is free except for the MIDI to USB adapter. I paid about 20 Euros for the ESI MIdimate II I mentioned previously, so that's not too expensive as well. Uploading patches via sysex takes a few seconds.

Oh, and check out this thread before buying a MIDI to USB adapter, and stay away from these cheap ones mentioned in the first post ;).
Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. Often this is the reason why you get no sound out of it. - ARP 2600 manual, 1971

The ram card uses a coin battery. I am not sure about rom cartridge however it could be damaged somehow.

I hope you get the midi from computer transfer to work.

There is dx7 software called dexed that can read sysex data and play it. You can also edit sounds. It could perhaps help you a bit while waiting to get the problem fixed. Just a tip.

Cheers

Image Image Good morning all I have good news to report!
the synth is working it lives !
Not sure how I've done it but possibly 3 ideas
1 the battery is making a proper contact as before I just temporary sellotaped the 2 wires on to it while I was waiting for the holder to be delivered
2 there may have been a dry joint (see picture)
3 God decided to bring it back to life !
I knew I was onto something when it said inset cartridge never had that display before
So I went through the reset procedure from alexannesty and hey presto !
Really chuffed I can't thank you guys enough for all your help and support here's a few pictures
Big thanks to all your input !

Now let's see if you can finally upload sound from the ROM cart!
Considering parting away from:
-Roland TR707
-DSI Mopho

It is a great synth even better now it's working question is what do I buy next
I'm looking at a Yamaha sy77 I'm looking for the Madonna sounds from the 80s
I listened to her live stuff and it's bloody awesome not possible with one keyboard player thou very full sound better than the studio albums

I would go for a more analog or VA synth
Madonna used mini moog and many more besides
DX-7
Why not go for the new Roland modules?
They should sound very good.

Cheers
