Can one clean a Space Echo with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol?

Post by Caisleyn » Sat Dec 19, 2015 8:59 pm

I have a quick question: I was told to use pure Isopropyl Alcohol clean the tape heads on my Roland RE-201 Space Echo. I've tried finding 99% in several different stores, but have been unsuccessful. Will I be fine using regular medical grade at 91%, or do I run the rise of damaging the tape heads? Thanks! :?:

The other 9% is water, so while you probably won't do any damage, I'd try to get the real thing.

I found Tape Head Cleaner in a little red bottle at Walmart a couple of years ago if that helps, or a Radio Shack should have some. Maybe ask a pharmacist at CVS or somewhere.

Most electronics stores sell pure iso. Good for heads and guides, not good for rubber pinch rollers and be especially careful if you use it on a capstan, make sure that the swab is barely wet because if the alcohol runs down the capstan shaft it can potentially wash the lubricant from the bearings.

My tip is to have a good look at this quick servicing guide: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewt ... 96#1475996

Alright, perfect! I just ordered this offline, I think it's the right thing?
